U.S. News & World Report has named Schneider Children’s Hospital to its list of “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals.”
The list named the top 30 pediatric facilities in the nation. Schneider Children’s Hospital, which was in the top 25, was one of only two hospitals in New York State to make the list.
“This study reaffirms Schneider Children’s Hospital’s standing as one of the best in the United States,” said Dr. Philip Lanzkowsky, the executive director and chief of staff at the hospital. “We are very proud to receive this distinction, which comes on the verge of the hospital’s 25th anniversary.”
The rankings were based on reputation and death rate. It also looked at “such care-related factors as volume, nursing care, advanced technology, and recognition by outside organizations.”
Schneider Children’s Hospital, which is located in New Hyde Park, opened in 1983. It currently has 154 beds, but recently started a $144 million expansion and renovation project.
The project will include the addition of a 5,900-square-foot neonatal intensive care unit, a 20,000-square-foot atrium with a playground and a four-story, 100,000-square-foot stand-alone pediatric emergency department.
