Queens Poet Laureate to appear at QMA

The Queens Museum of Art program “Poets in the Galleries” will conclude on Saturday, October 13 during an event that will include an appearance by Queens Poet Laureate Julio Marzan.
Since July, the museum has been holding cocktail hours and “creative exchanges” where poets readings and discussions about themes from the exhibition “Generation 1.5.” The exhibit focused on artists who were teenagers when they emigrated.
During previous sessions of “Poets in the Galleries,” discussions were led by Amir Parsa, Monica de la Torre, Sarah Husain, Luis H. Francia and Roger Bonair-Agard.
The series will come to an end on Saturday, October 13 with an event that will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It will feature Marzan, who is a native of Puerto Rico and was recently named the Poet Laureate of Queens. He came to the United States when he was four months old.
Along with being an Associate Professor at SUNY/Nassau Community College, Marzan has published several books. They are “Translations Without Originals,” “Puerta De Tierra” and the translation “Selected Poems: Luis Pal/s Matos.”
