St. John’s University in Jamaica Estates held a special convocation on Wednesday, November 7 to honor Dr. John Sexton, president of New York University (second from right).
During the ceremony, Sexton was conferred with a Doctor of Humane Letters honoris causa by St. John’s University President Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M. (second from left). At left, James P. Pellow, EdD, St. John’s executive vice president and chief operating officer reads the honorary degree citation while St. John’s Provost, Dr. Julia A. Upton, RSM, (right) looks on.
“When you find someone who understands the struggles and challenges, but at the same time, also understands the vision, it’s greatly reassuring,” Father Harrington said of his colleague and friend, Sexton. “He’s a very good person, first and foremost and he’s the person that I go to when I need advice, because of the person - not the president that he is.”
