Sovereign Bank holding book drive

Sovereign Bank is collecting money to buy books for sick kids at all of the bank’s New York City and Long Island branches through Monday, December 31. Funds collected during the 8th annual holiday book drive will be given to Reach Out and Read, a national, non-profit organization that makes reading a routine part of pediatric care.
For each $2 donation, Reach Out and Read will purchase one of five classic children’s titles and make sure it is delivered to a local hospital, clinic or pediatrician’s office. Customers can specify whether they want to donate Where the Wild Things Are, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Clifford’s Animal Sounds, Goodnight Moon or the Spanish-language version, Buenas Noches, Luna when making a donation. Last year more than 23,000 books were distributed through Sovereign’s drive.
Some of the Queens distribution points include Elmhurst Hospital Center, The Floating Hospital in Long Island City, Charles Wang Community Health Center in Flushing, Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens in Long Island City and St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway.
Sovereign bank branches in Western Queens include a Jackson Heights branch located 83-20 Roosevelt Avenue, a Long Island City branch located at 22-59 31st Street, and a Forest Hills branch located at 72-44 Austin Street.
