A fourth grade teacher who lives in Whitestone has been recognized by the New York State English Council (NYSEC) as their 2007 Elementary School Teacher of the Year.
Roxanne Basandella was nominated by the principal at the Drexel Avenue School in Westbury, Long Island, Wanda Toledo, and the announcement was made public on Tuesday, December 18.
“Roxanne’s commitment to the children of Westbury is inspiring to all of those who work with her,” Toledo said. “She is not only an exceptional teacher but an exceptional person. She brings out the best in her students.”
NYSEC is an Albany-based non-profit organization dedicated to keeping New York State English Language Arts educators from pre-K through college in public and private schools informed, enthusiastic and unified.
An affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English, their goal is to stimulate the self-development and professional growth of the individual English Language Arts teachers on all levels and to monitor and improve the status of instruction in English Language Arts in New York State.
