BVAC planning new headquarters

No, they are not closing down.
The Bayside Volunteer Ambulance Corps (BVAC) is planning to build a new headquarters within the parking lot of its current location on 42nd Avenue at 214th Street.
Construction is expected to begin within a few months and once started, the builders expect to finish the new BVAC structure in about a year.
The rest of BVAC’s property, which is currently zoned for C8-1, according to the city’s Department of Buildings, is up for sale. The zoning classification allows for commercial and manufacturing with a large parking component.
Starting in February, BVAC will be temporarily moving its office services to within the confines of its ambulances, answering calls and so forth.
In the meantime, the ambulance corps is looking for a space to store the vehicles overnight and before the shifts start in the afternoon. Volunteers staff the BVAC lines from about 4 p.m. until midnight during the week and on weekends from mid-afternoon until midnight.
Post-construction, the group, which was founded in 1955, plans to expand their services and hold off-site CPR classes for the Bayside community.
