The South Jamaica native, who committed to the Gaels after their game with Western Michigan two weeks ago, also had interest from South Carolina, Providence, George Mason and LaSalle.”It's not about the conference,” Fields said. “If you're gonna make it, you're gonna make it anywhere.”Iona makes sense for plenty of reasons. Fields will get a chance to get playing time right away – “If I work hard,” he said – and its a solid academic school which isn't too far away.”It's not too big and it's not too small at the same time,” Fields said of the MAAC school in New Rochelle.It also helps that assistant coach Shaheem Holloway, a former standout point guard at Seton Hall, is also from Jamaica and is close with Naclerio. And, for everyone, it was a good time for a decision. Cardozo is in the middle of a slump with two home losses to league teams in as many weeks after going without one for six years.”You could see as each day went on,” Naclerio said, “he was pressing.”Zag zigs out of town: Former Cardozo star Theo Davis recently left his college team, Gonzaga (Wash.), to care for his ailing father in Toronto.
