Lewis misses out on ‘great’ win

By Marc Raimondi

“We got hyped,” senior point guard Sylvia Davis said. “[Coach Mike Eisenberg] kept saying the game wasn't over.” He was right.Francis Lewis blew an 11-point, fourth-quarter lead, mostly because the Patriots could not buy a rebound, and fell to South Shore, 52-46, in a PSAL Class AA game Monday afternoon in Brooklyn.”We chickened out – that's what we did,” Eisenberg said. “You need to close the door on them.”Junior Andree DeLeon and senior Margaret Elenis led Lewis (7-2 Queens AA) with 11 points apiece and freshman Julianne Torres added nine, including five in the Patriots' dominant third quarter. Baytania Newman had 15 points and Valerie Patterson and Angel Porter had 11 apiece for South Shore (11-1 Brooklyn AA Group 1).Given how close his team came and the quality of opponent on the road, Eisenberg called the loss the “most disappointing” of the year.”This would have been,” DeLeon said, “a great win for us.”
