Trinity Fields, Benjamin Cardozo

Sport: Basketball
Year: Senior

Fields is finding his scoring rhythm at just the right time. The Iona College-bound 6-foot-1 combo guard lit up San Diego for 24 points, six rebounds and four assists in the Judges’ 71-49 win as part of the Big Apple Basketball Invitational at Baruch College. He also had 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in a 56-55 win over Archbishop Carroll of Washington, D.C. Saturday night.

Fields, who leads the Judges and Queens AA in scoring at 20.5 points per game, has taken on more of a leadership role this year, particularly of late. He is taking all of the big shots, making most of them and also distributing the ball, as his 4.4 assists per game illustrate, and averaging 4.9 rebounds, too, for the 13-3 Judges, who have won eight of their last nine and three in a row.

“Since the new year, he’s picked it up,” Cardozo Coach Ron Naclerio said. “He’s scoring more and shooting less. He’s got a little more confidence in his teammates and they realize they don’t have to fight with him, they can rely on him.”

“Everybody knows their role — what they have to do and when they have to contribute,” the Cambria Heights native added.
