While combing through any lease can be a daunting task for renters, deciphering nine pages of the New York City Housing Authority Resident Police Officer Lease is especially vital.
On page seven of the 9-page document, it states that NYC police officers who are terminated, retire, resign, suffer a disability, die or otherwise, are subject to eviction from the NYCHA, as are their families.
This came as a shock to retired NYPD officer Harold Gregory, when he received an unexpected eviction notice eight months ago after living at the Teller Avenue housing complex for nearly seven years. Gregory recently retired after 22 years of service with the NYPD.
