Holocaust Memorial concert at Margaret Tietz

Cantor Sol Zim will perform in the third annual Holocaust Memorial Concert on Sunday, February 10 at the Margaret Tietz Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
The concert is being presented by Margaret Tietz and the Harriet and Kenneth Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives at Queensborough Community College in Bayside.
It will be in honor of Holocaust survivor Phil Bialowitz. He also led a 1943 uprising at the Sobibr Concentration Camp, which was located in Germany and was where more than 250,000 people lost their lives. That particular uprising was “the site of the most successful uprising by Jewish prisoners of German extermination camps.” During it, hundreds were able to escape from Sobibr.
Zim, a Master Cantor, is the Cantor of the Hollis Hills Jewish Center of Queens. He is also Associate Director of the Cantorial School at the Academy of Jewish Religion in New York City, as well as being a professor of Jewish music there. His resume also includes being a composer, songwriter, and recording artist.
The concert will begin at 2 p.m. The Margaret Tietz Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is located at 164-11 Chapin Parkway in Jamaica.
