PSAL Queens Borough playoffs: Thomas, Stokley lead Edison into semis

Allan Thomas had 32 points and 12 rebounds and Isiah Stokley had 22 points, 18 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Thomas Edison boys' basketball team to a 76-61 win against Van Buren on Tuesday in Jamaica in the first round of the PSAL Queens Borough playoffs.

Arthur Abbensett added 10 points for the Inventors, who are seeded third, and Stephon Hodges chipped in six assists in the victory. Edison will play No. 2 Cardozo in the semifinals Thursday afternoon in Bayside. The two teams split their pair of games during the regular season.

Van Buren, which was the sixth seed, will take part in the PSAL Class AA city playoffs starting Feb. 27.

The finals of the Queens Borough playoffs will be Sunday at St. John's University, set for 3 p.m.

Cardozo 73, Hillcrest 53. Trinity Fields had 13 points and 11 assists as the second-seeded Judges were victorious against No. 7 Hillcrest on Tuesday in Bayside. Vincent Scott and Dennis Oglesby had 11 points each and Denzel Wilson (13 rebounds), Marquis Grant (12) and Edy Toussaint (10) were dominant on the boards. Cardozo plays Edison in the semifinals Thursday.

Campus Magnet 59, Newtown 51. Kyle O'Quinn, the Bulldogs' 6-foot-8 center, was too much for the Pioneers' much smaller front line to handle. The senior had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead top-seeded Campus Magnet over No. 8 Newtown in Cambria Heights in the first round of the Queens Borough playoffs. The Bulldogs will play No. 4 Forest Hills at home Thursday in the semifinals.

Mennon Chavis had 13 points, Sasha Clarida and Khalil McDonald had 10 points apiece and Nathaniel Wilson added 13 assists for Campus Magnet. David Joseph led Newtown with 28 points and Jonathan Douglas added 10 points.

Forest Hills 75, Bryant 58. Alex Hall's 20-point, 17-rebound performance led the Rangers to their win over the Owls on Tuesday at home in the first round of the Queens Borough playoffs. Forest Hills will travel to Campus Magnet on Thursday for the semifinals.

Damir Beharovic had 13 points, Andre Armstrong had 12 and Terry Harrison added 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Rangers. For Bryant, Joany Bustamante had 20 points, Adis Lucevic had 16 points, Troy Honesty had 10 points and Charles Williams added 10 rebounds.
