St. Margaret’s finishes strong

The St. Margaret’s CYO team of Middle Village finished the regular season strong, compiling an 11-3 record. They won their final five games, including a victory over St. Adalbert’s, which handed them one of their three losses.
The game against St. Adalbert’s saw the return from injury of power forward and back-up center Nick Gangone. Upon his return, Nick had three points and numerous rebounds while playing tough defense. The Dragons were lead by the sharp shooting of Mike Rizzo, who poured in ten points. John Wittmer, also cushioned the victory with his six points, four of which came from the charity stripe. The Dragons relied upon the strong leadership of their point guard and team captain Matt Morscher.
During the season, the Dragons have gotten contributions on the offensive end from Conner Kelly and Tyler Petznick and counted on the strong defensive play of Paul Cirone and Kyle Lawless. They hope to continue their winning streak into the CYO playoffs, which start on Sat. Feb. 16.
