The decision to close the Sacred Heart Private School at 1651 Zerega Avenue may have a greater impact in the community than just a loss of a local school.
With the future of the site in question, forces are getting together to make sure that if the site is sold, it will be included in the downzoning which took place in the area in 2006.
The block where Sacred Heart is located was never downzoned, though many of the surrounding blocks were in 2006, changing from R6 medium density zoning to an R5A zone.
The type of zoning surrounding the school, R5A, prevents out-of-scale development that can blur the distinction between the Bronx
