Cathedral Prep falls in ‘B’ semifinals

By Dylan Butler

It's that motto that helped the Crusaders get to the CHSAA Class B intersectional semifinal game and take a six-point lead into the fourth quarter against an athletically superior Blessed Sacrament team that boasts a Division I guard. However, Cathedral Prep coach Frank McQuail should have added “and handle a frenetic full-court press” to that slogan as his team wilted in the fourth quarter, falling to Blessed Sacrament, 52-47, at Mount St. Michael Monday night.”We're very fragile,” said McQuail, whose team dominated the boards in the opening three quarters. “I knew we were capable of throwing (the ball) away, of not playing defense, of not making shots.”Cathedral Prep (17-10) picked the worst part of the season to do all three. While Loyola (Md.)-bound guard Jhared Hall scored 12 of his game-high 29 points in the final eight minutes, Cathedral Prep's Kyle Huber was having a nightmarish game. The senior guard scored 13 points, tied with Matt Knott for the team high, but it came on 2-of-27 shooting.”He's our scorer, but unfortunately he's streaky,” McQuail said. “You've got to dance with the girl who brought you. I do believe in the kids. But I just wished he'd make more solid decisions when he doesn't have a good look.”Reach Sports Editor Dylan Butler by e-mail at news@timesledger.com or call 718-229-0300, Ext. 143.
