ELIAS KARMON HELPS LAUNCH BCC
The New Yankee Stadium Community Benefits Fund has helped launch the second year of the Bronx CUNY Scholarship Fund with a contribution of $50,000.
A selection of the first students to win the new Bronx CUNY Scholarship awards met their sponsors and celebrated the first anniversary of the Bronx CUNY Scholarship Fund on Tuesday, March 4, with a donor reception at The New York Botanical Garden.
By the summer of 2008, between 75 and 100 Bronx students from a diverse range of cultures will have won the first round of scholarships. In its first year, the scholarship fund received nearly $200,000, which included $80,500 from local businesses and individual donors plus a generous endowed scholarship from philanthropist Elias Karmon. $75,000 has already been distributed to students in need this academic year (2007-2008). All of the scholarship recipients attend one of the City University of New York
