Pregnant woman mugged in Bayside

A 41-year-old woman who is seven months pregnant was knocked to the ground by a mugger on one of the quietest blocks of Bayside recently - but she’s okay and back to work.
The unnamed victim was walking home from her job at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children on Wednesday, February 27, when she was attacked at the intersection of 216th Street and 31st Drive, just yards from the entrance to the facility, which treats children with traumatic brain injury, among other conditions.
The male assailant grabbed her handbag and knocked her to the ground. He fled into John Golden Park and made his escape. The woman sought refuge in a corner house nearby, and called police.
According to an official spokesperson for St. Mary’s, the victim is recovering and has returned to work on a part-time basis.
The attack occurred at about 6:30 p.m., well after sunset in near-freezing temperatures, and the victim was unable to make a good identification, cops said.
According to New York City Police Department CompStat figures, there have been a total of 23 robberies in the entire precinct as of March 2, up from 13 for the similar period last year.
“This type of robbery is highly unusual for that part of Bayside,” a police source said, adding, “usually its kids robbing another kid’s cell phone or something like that.”
The source said that the investigation is ongoing.
“We’d really love to collar this guy,” the source said.
