Strongest to enforce lawn litter law

In compliance with the terms of the state’s new “Lawn Litter Law,” Mayor Bloomberg recently signed Executive Order #113, naming the city’s Department of Sanitation as the lead enforcement agency of the ban against junk flyers.
The announcement came on Monday, February 25, from State Senator Frank Padavan, the author of the law which enables homeowners to ban sales circulars, menus and other unwanted non-mail commercial notices from their property.
The “Lawn Litter Law” mandates that all signs posted by residents must state in one inch letters “Do Not Place Unsolicited Advertising Materials On This Property.” The signs must also be at least five inches tall and seven inches wide and placed in a “conspicuous location.”
Mail and newspapers are exempt, including sample or promotional copies, including “sale or coupon newspapers and magazines containing more than a deminimus (trifling) amount of news that are published at least weekly.”
Padavan reminded homeowners that free signs which comply with the new law are available at his Bellerose office located at 89-39 Gettysburg Street, Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call hishis Whitestone office located 150-26 14th Avenue, Mondays thru Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., he said.
