The storm that blew through the area overnight Tuesday-Wednesday, March 4-5 was supposed to bring several inches of rain and coastal flooding, according to the National Weather Service and the city’s Office of Emergency Management.
That was a false alarm, but they were right on the mark about the wind, which knocked down branches and uprooted trees around the borough, including this one at 220th Street and 40th Avenue in Bayside.
The fallen tree took out a power line, leaving “maybe a dozen” customers without electricity, according to a Con Ed worker at the scene.
“It could have been a lot worse,” the worker observed. “The line was a secondary - if it had been a primary (main feeder) line - it would have taken out a number of blocks,” he said.
