A father of two with one on the way died in a tragic fall at Shea Stadium after a game on Tuesday, April 15.
Antonio Narainasami, 37, of Brooklyn, fell four stories to his death from an escalator on the mezzanine level at Shea - while his 14- and 8-year-old daughters looked on.
According to relatives who were at the game, the escalator was not running at the time of the incident. They say Narainasami - an avid athlete - simply lost his footing. He was pronounced dead at New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ).
Family members say that neither alcohol nor horseplay were at fault for the fatal accident.
“We have been advised of the tragic accident that resulted in the death of a fan attending last night’s game,” said a Mets spokesperson on Wednesday, April 16. “The Mets, the city’s Parks Department and the New York City Police Department are investigating the accident. Our deepest and heartfelt sympathies go out to the fan’s family.”
