The Blau Weiss Gottschee Under-12 boys' team moved one step closer to playing for the New York State Cup title, beating LaGrange, 7-1, Saturday.
Henery Cubas scored three goals and Tim Chubimidze, Alejandro Fernandes, Matthew Scimemi, and Bradley Nestor each scored in the rout.
Gottsschee will face New Hyde Park in the semifinals Saturday at 2 p.m.
The boys Under-7 team defeated Chelsea Piers' U-8 team, 3-0. Sean Molly got things started in the 16th minute by taking off on a solo run and converting to make it 1-0.
In the second half, Eric Schemitsch added another two goals to pad the lead after some great individual effort on his part. Gottschee keeper Mike DeCanio came up with some superb saves on the way to the clean sheet.
Blau Weiss Under-8 boys battled GJOA to a scoreless tie. Keeper Fiachra McDonagh had a solid game in goal.
In an intra-club matchup, the Under-9 boys walloped the U-10s, 8-0. Connor McGlynn had a banner day, scoring five times. Brian Sarmago, Omir Fernandez, and Tristan Curmi teamed up for the remaining three.
At the Metropolitan Oval, the boys U-9B squad defeated Istria, 4-1. Early goals by Francesco Concordia, Joel Morales, and Dante Giraldi put Gottschee up 3-1 by halftime. Itzy Quiroz added one more late in the second half to cap the scoring.
In a high-scoring affair, Gottschee's Under-11 boys fell to the Brooklyn Patriots, 6-4.
Despite a hat trick form Connor McGlynn, Gottschee could not hold back the Patriots offense and fell short. Blau Weiss's other tally came off a free kick by Conrad Nowowiejski.
In a league match Sunday, the U-12 boys dropped Manhattan Kickers, 3-1. Alejandro Fernandes, Jeremy Fedus, and Arun Basuljevic scored one goal apiece.
Posting their first win of the season, the Under-13B boys nipped Asphalt Green, 2-1. Gottschee trailed early, but were able to get back into the game in the 25th minute when Edison Calderone scored to pull Blau Weiss level. In the 60th minute, Gottschee gained the advantage when Antonio Almaguar beautifully headed in a service by Nunzio Urso off an indirect free kick. Defenders Mike Nunez and Jakub Golowan tenacious play in the back helped preserve the lead and seal the win for the boys.
On Saturday, the U16 Academy boys team overwhelmed Oakwood (Conn.), 6-2. Dom Sarle's blast from 22 yards out and Raphael Abreu's header gave Gottschee a 2-0 lead by halftime. Early in the second half, Leo Fernandes chipped one over the keeper to make it 3-0 and the match was on its way to a rout. A low blast by Abreu made it 4-1 and after Oakwood got within, 4-2, Rocco Romeo scored from 11 yards out to make it 5-2. Orlando Casteneda then pushed the game totally out of reach when he took off on a breakaway and converted, with 15 minutes to go, for the 6-2 final.
The U18 Academy boys team hung on for a 2-1 win against Oakwood. Giorgio Ferrara converted a penalty kick for Blau Weiss in the first half and added a second on a header off a Josh Haberman corner kick midway through the second half.
Oakwood sliced its deficit in half, but Gottschee clung to the slim lead, and aided by strong performances from defenders Alex George, Tylan Khan and keeper Alex Lambert, kept Oakwood at bay till the final whistle.
The U-10s girls lost to the Brooklyn Patriots Revolution, 3-2. Gottschee goals came form Katie Langkamp and Sophia DeLeon.
In the U-11 division, Blau Weiss defeated Rockaway, 4-2, powered by a hat trick from Doruntina Zeneli and a single strike form Karen Sarmiento.
The U-12 girls faced more of a challenge against Edgemont Wildfire but still came out on top, 3-1. Goals were scored by Terese O'Boyle, Francesca Giglio, and Victoria Antonino.
The girls high-school team played two matches over the weekend, beting Bishop Kearney, 3-2 in Brooklyn. On Sunday, Gottschee was overmatched physically and subsequently edged by Larchmont Explosion, 2-1.
