Cardozo senior’s heart is in art

Award-winning artist Tiffany Ng, a 17-year-old senior at Cardozo High School has been awarded a coveted internship at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The Bayside resident holds a Merit Award from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, which she earned by being judged in the top 5 percent of more than 8,000 entries.
She also received one of only 10 “Gold Key” first-place awards given in the New York City Region’s Scholastic Arts and Writing competition.
Ng said that she first became seriously interested in the Arts when she was 15-years-old and works in pencil, charcoal and both oil and acrylic paint, as well as fabric.
She was “very excited” to receive the paid internship. “We’re concentrating on the Art of Africa, the Americas and Oceania right now and I’m learning so many things,” Ng said.
The museum selects its interns from among graduating seniors in New York City public and private schools after a rigorous process which demands a strong grade-point average and an impressive art portfolio. Applicants must also interview at the museum and submit written essays on several topics.
If selected, they get to work with museum staff and their intern counterparts at one of the world’s great art museums.
