Blau-Weiss Gottschee took to the soccer fields for another full weekend of action, including the beginners at the free clinic up at Juniper Valley Park. While most teams stayed home, the Boys Under-15 team was in New England to play a pair of Premier League matches.
Turning in a strong performance, the Under-8A boys blanked the Cross Island Jigs, 4-0. Kristian Pavlovic gave Blau Weiss a 1-0 lead in the first half and then Gottschee added three more after the break for the win. Second period goals were scored by Manny Leon (2) and Jaime DiLuzio.
The Under-8B boys defeated the Manhattan Kickers, 2-0, on goals by Daniel Vilardi and Stephanie Verderber.
In an easy outing, the Under-9A boys crushed the Brooklyn Patriots, 8-0.
At Brennan Field, the U-9B boys were nipped by Downtown United SC, 1-0 on a set piece their lone shot on goal. Gottschee pressed and controlled most of the game, but a lack of communication produced nothing but numerous wasted chances. Stefan Mircovic was a standout at right fullback stopping everything that came his way.
Wasting a 2-0 lead, the Under-10A boys tied Downtown United SC, 2-2. Thomas Conan scored in the first half, giving Gottschee a 1-0 lead. Max Ponticarvo added one to make it 2-0 right after the break, but it didn't last as DUSC battled back to draw even.
The U-12 boys fell to the Brooklyn Italians U13s, 3-1. Blau Weiss had a 1-0 advantage in the first half off a Nestor Bradley goal, but were slowly worn down in the second half and gave up three unanswered goals.
Gottschee's Under-13 boys nearly got by Downtown United SC, but instead had to settle for a single point in a 1-1 tie. Kaique Fernades scored off a Kevin Naughton corner 25 minutes into the match to give Gottschee the lead, but with 10 minutes remaining DUSC found the equalizer off a counterattack.
The Under-13B boys team took to the pitch against America Juniors looking for their first win of the season. Marlon Aranibar put the team in front 1-0 in the 30th minute and it remained that way until half. Nunzio Urso scored two minutes after the break to put Gottschee in front, 2-0. However, a couple of mental lapses by the defense led to two goals. With momentum shifting, America scored two more times to finish off the boys in a very disappointing 4-2 loss for Gottschee.
Taking to the road, the Under-15 boys were up New England for two games beginning with the Boston Bolts. Boston took a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute and never looked back. Boston added two more in the second half to win handily, 3-0.
In the second game Blau Weiss faced off against Hicksville and again gave up an early goal from which they could not recover. This time it took only one and Hicksville won 1-0.
In Academy action, Gottschee's Under-16 boys defeated South Central, 5-3. After falling behind early, Blau Weiss recovered on a goal by Glenn Whalen and then took a 2-1 lead after Leo Fernandes scored just before the break, converting after a tremendous build up out of the back.
After intermission Fernades converted a penalty kick to push it to 3-1 but then South Central responded to keep it a game, 3-2. Gottschee's Dom Sarle fed a perfect pass to Orlando Castaneda who made the most of it pushing the BW cushion back up to two, 4-2. Blau Weiss then scored an own goal to cut the lead to 4-3, but Sarle came to the rescue with about 10 minutes remaining, scoring to pad the lead once more and seal the win.
It certainly didn't start well, but the finish was more than fine for the Under-18 Academy Boys as they whipped South Central, 6-2. South Central scored midway through the first half and with Gottschee looking out of synch, appeared to be in command. Luckily for Blau Weiss, Quintel Gates equalized before half and in the second half, Gottschee came out firing on all cylinders. Gates scored twice to compete the hat trick, followed by a shot by Greg Mallia that made it 4-1. South Central responded with one making it 4-2, but then Giorgio Ferrara fired in a pair to give Gottschee the win.
In girls play, the Under-10s had an easy time against GJOA, beating them 5-0.
The Girls U-11s lost to Asphalt Green, 6-1. Stephanie Biscaglia scored the lone goal for Gottschee.
