Man shot in car off Van Wyck

By Stephen Stirling

What began as a traffic accident turned into a homicide investigation Saturday night after police discovered that a Jamaica man whose car had hit a tree had been shot twice.

Police said Allan George Holley of 119-49 147th St. was found dead in the driver seat of his car, which had struck a tree near the intersection of 133rd Avenue and the Van Wyck Expressway Service road shortly before 11 p.m.

Authorities said they initially responded to a report of a traffic accident, but upon their arrival discovered that Holley, 25, had been shot in the head and shoulder. Holley was immediately taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

A man who lives on 133rd Street and identified himself only as John said he was watching TV when heard several quick pops and then a loud crash. He came to his front door and saw that Holley's Kia Optima had slammed into a tree a few houses down.

“It looked like the guy in there wasn't moving so I called 911,” John said. “I didn't for a second think it was a shooting though, you know, I just thought it was a bad crash and maybe his breaks failed or something.”

Police said it was not immediately clear if the shots fired at Holley came from inside the car or another vehicle. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday night and the investigation is ongoing.

No one answered the door at Holley's Jamaica home Sunday morning.
