LONG ISLAND CITY A Brooklyn man is facing assault and resisting arrest charges on top of drunk driving charges after he broke into a police impound lot two days after his first arrest to steal back his car, authorities said.
Damon Ross, 32, was arrested on drunk driving charges and leaving the scene of an accident April 13 by police in the 108th Precinct after he sideswiped another car on Van Dam Avenue and then tried to flee from the other driver on the Long Island Expressway, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Queens district attorney's office.
Ross's 1997 Chevrolet Impala was impounded by police, but two days later, he was pulled over at 9:20 p.m. at the intersection of Borden Avenue and Vernon Boulevard for running a red light, the DA said. Ross fled on foot when he was pulled over, but was soon apprehended, the DA said. The shoving match he got into with the officer resulted in assault charges, the DA said.
Officers found the Impala's ignition had been punched, and located a sledge hammer, two screwdrivers and a pair of vice grips in the car, authorities said.
