Bryant softball coach receives national award

The National High School Coaches Association recently named Bryant’s Wally Hausdorf as their softball coach of the year.
One of 20 coaches chosen from 16 different states to be honored nationwide, Hausdorf won his 600th game - the first coach in New York State history to do so and is 25th in the country in career wins - this year when the Owls shut out Bronx Leadership in April.
In 28 years at the Long Island City school, Hausdorf’s teams have won 13 division titles, qualified for the Final Four on four occasions and made the playoffs 26 times.
A physical education teacher and the school’s Coordinator of Student Affairs, Hausdorf also coaches their jayvee girls volleyball and girls basketball teams. The Glen Oaks native played baseball and basketball at Christ the King and York College, served as head baseball coach at Baruch College and Queensborough Community College and was an assistant men’s basketball coach at two SUNY schools, Stony Brook and Old Westbury, prior to taking the reins at Bryant.
