He is now officially City Councilmember Anthony Como.
After the city’s Board of Elections (BOE) certified the results of the 30th City Council District Special Election on Friday, June 13, the City Clerk swore him into office the following Monday, allowing him to begin his duties as a Councilmember.
Meanwhile, a ceremonial swearing in before the entire City Council will take place at the June 25 stated Council meeting while officials are working on another celebration inside the district for later this summer.
“I look forward to representing them in the City Council and committed to assisting my neighbors with the issues that concern them,” Como said. “Moving forward it is important that we work together as a community to ensure that our district continues to thrive and remains a wonderful place to live.”
During his first days in office, Como has already participated in a number of Council meetings and expects to be busy during the next few weeks as the Council continues to work through the budget process.
Democrat Elizabeth Crowley called Como to concede the election on Wednesday, June 11 after the BOE officials went through the voting machines and counted the absentee ballots. Como won the election by 38 votes.
Another election will take place this November to determine who will serve the last year of disgraced former City Councilmember Dennis Gallagher’s term.
Alyson Grant, a spokesperson for Crowley, said that she is seriously considering whether to run again in November and will likely make a decision this weekend.
