Doo-Wop in Bowne Park

Local music lovers got to beat the heat recently at a free concert of cool Doo-Wop music in Bowne Park, featuring Flushing’s own “The Four Pops.”
The performance, on Sunday, June 8, was sponsored by Senator Frank Padavan (center), the Bowne Park Civic Association and the Broadway-Flushing Homeowners Association.

The Doo-Wop artists, who have opened for headliners like the Coasters, Del-Vikings and the Marvelettes, consists of (far left) Frank Ranieri, an original group member from Ozone Park; Astoria’s own Joe Clements (second left), who teaches harmony theory; tenor Nelson “Tino” Alvarez (second right), who sang with Doo-Wop diva Baby Washington and (right) the group’s newest member, Carlos Vazquez.
