The Shops at Atlas Park in Glendale are hosting a free 10-hour music festival, as part of the city-wide celebration “Make Music New York.”
Blues group, The Robert Charels Band, will kick off the day-long extravaganza on Saturday June 21, at the destination shopping venue, located at 8000 Cooper Avenue (at 80th Street) in Glendale.
Following their one hour set, from 11 a.m. until noon, Will Deynes follows from 1 to 2 p.m. Composer and lyricist Steven L. Rosenhaus performs between 4 and 5 p.m. and funk band “Positive N-ergy” rounds out the day from 7 until 9 p.m.
Thousands of amateur and professional musicians in all five boroughs will perform on sidewalks and various public spaces to celebrate the summer for this city event.
The Shops will also host “Groovin’ on the Green,” a summer-long concert series where guests can lay on blankets and listen to diverse styles of music. Styles range from classic Beatles tunes to gospel, Latin and “indie.”
“Groovin’ on the Green” performances will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., every Monday through Thursday in June, July and August.
The Groovin’ concerts will also take place on the first Friday each month and Friday August 29. Post-summer shows will take place on Mondays in September.
“I’m looking forward to performing at Atlas Park,” said Deynes, a singer/songwriter and resident of Woodhaven. “I play a fun pop/rock show which is perfect for this type of venue,” he said.
