Police are searching for a man who was shot after robbing a Maspeth Western Union owned by a retired New York City Corrections Officer Thursday morning.
Authorities said the former corrections officer opened fire on a man shortly after he robbed the store, located at 58-02 Borden Ave., of an estimated $30,000.
Police said the man was seen leaving the scene towards the Long Island Expressway in a late model maroon-colored car and that a white SUV was also seen leaving the scene at the same time, though they were not certain that the SUV was involved in the robbery.
A trail of blood at the scene led police to believe that the man had been struck by one of the shots fired by the corrections officer, whose name was not released.
Police are asking anyone with any information to call 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
