St. Luke’s girls’ soccer defeats Sacred Heart

St. Luke’s won its ninth girls’ soccer game of the year last weekend, beating Sacred Heart at O’Connor Field.

The offense of Jessica Luca, Lorraine Tuohy and Sabrina Blaskovic came out strong. Sabrina started the game off immediately with a breakaway goal while Stephanie Blaskovic rocketed another one into the net for the second goal.

A few minutes later, Stephanie came from nowhere, flew across the net where the ball was headed, to save a sure Sacred Heart goal. Alissa Carbonara contributed offensively with a superb blast from midfield.

Midfielders Fabiana Macchiarulo, Sophia Moreno and Christina Iemma, played a strong, consistent game and the defense, led by Mara McDonagh, Theresa McDonagh and Julia Rukaj played aggressive to hold off Sacred Heart. Goalkeeper Francesca Petro played remarkably well to secure the lead.

With a few moments left, Jessica Luca used her lightening speed and fancy footwork, made a beautiful pass to Sabrina Blaskovic, who scored the winning goal.

Also on the team, but not present at that game, are Georgia Humphries and Fay Ipsilantis.
