Jorge Ynoa had interest from Hofstra and places like Albany and Stony Brook. But instead of waiting for one of those Division I baseball programs to step forward with a good offer, the outfielder signed with Division II Caldwell College in nearby Caldwell, N.J.
Caldwell has become a destination for many of Queens’ solid talent. On their roster, the Cougars have Long Island City graduate Omar Velazquez, former Bayside star Anthony Velazquez, Rob Casal of St. Francis Prep and Bryant’s Edgar Santos and Anthony Mejia. Joining those five next year will be Ynoa and St. Francis Prep pitcher A.J. Boardman.
Under the helm of coach Chris Reardon, a Jackson Heights native, Caldwell has made back-to-back NCAA Northeast Regionals.
“Under Reardon, Caldwell has become one of the top Division II teams in the entire Northeast,” said Ian Millman, Ynoa’s summer coach with the New York Nine. “Reardon expects hard work and maximum effort from his players, which they have learned to deliver on a regular basis for Caldwell.”
