Alley Pond puppets delight all in park

By Joshua Blank

At Alley Pond Park Monday, Puppets in the Parks put on a performance of "Cinderella Samba." The show seemed like a big success to the smiling faces of around 50 children and adults who came out to see the colorful two-foot-tall puppets dance around the outdoor stage.

According to Marie Spodek of Forest Hills, who brought her grandchildren to the show, the children were mesmerized by the performance. The classic story of "Cinderella" was given a twist by the group who set the story in the Brazilian forest and incorporated many themes associated with the South American country, such as the salsa dance.

Everybody in the audience was very amused by the story. Although many were there for different reasons, they all seemed pleased with the performance. Some people in the audience, such as Bahar Azmoudeh of Windsor Park, who is originally from Iran, were there because the puppets brought back memories of their past in foreign countries where shows like this are very common.

Fans of "Cinderella Samba" can look forward to more performances on July 13 at Bayswater Playground in the Rockaways at 9:45 a.m. and at the Bandshell in Forest Park Aug. 13 at 7 p.m.
