You don’t need anybody to draw you a picture to know that diversity in Queens isn’t just about food. The Queens Council on the Arts (QCA) invites Queens artists and non-profit organizations that provide arts and cultural programming, to apply for funding for artistic projects.
According to a statement, they seek as diverse as possible a pool of applicants, reflecting not only the incredible ethnic diversity of the borough, but also the wide geographic diversity.
These grants, from the Queens Community Arts Fund, encourage artists and arts organizations to delve into the world of competitive granting, often for the first time, and help them to develop the professional aspects of their careers.
According to QCA, many artists and organizations that received grants from them move on to receive greater funding by such organizations as the New York State Council on the Arts or the New York Foundation for the Arts.
All artists and arts organizations residing in Queens are eligible to apply; specific eligibility and guidelines are available at QCA’s website www.queenscouncilarts.org. A
Queens Community Arts Fund online application will be launched soon.
The deadline for Organizations to submit an application is Thursday, September 18; individual artists have until Thursday, October 2 to apply. All new applicants are required to attend an application information session; returning applicants who have not applied in over a year are also encouraged to apply.
The first session for organizations is on Monday July 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Queens Library, 41-17 Main Street in Flushing. For individuals, The Greater Astoria Historical Society is hosting a session on Wednesday, July 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at their 4th floor headquarters in the Quinn Building, at 35-20 Broadway in Long Island City.
The Queens Community Arts Fund is supported, in part, by funding from the New York State Council on the Arts, the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs and JP Morgan Chase Regrant Program.
