The Debate Club met on Wednesday, July 30 to explore several important issues.
The first topic, which featured North Shore Towers attorney Errol Brett as the guest speaker, focused on the Towers’ proprietary lease. The questions asked were: What is a proprietary lease? Why do we have one at North Shore Towers? Should we extend the lease and if so how do we do it? Why wasn’t the vote to extend the lease successful?
Two other topics were also addressed during the meeting, which took place in the Coleridge Lounge. They were:
-With oil and gas prices rising, who is being blamed? What has been the Bush energy policy? What do your presidential candidates propose to do about the effects of fuel costs?
-The economy is making Americans very nervous. The old saying “as General Motors goes, so goes America” is partly to blame. We need a huge change similar to the changes made after Sputnik. What do our candidates suggest for nation building and getting us out of the financial mess we are in?
Keep an eye open for posting with information on the next Debate Club meeting.
