John Farrell Sr.

John Farrell Sr., 70, long-time resident of Douglaston Manor, passed away on August 2 following a short illness.
Farrell created the Queens Flag Day Committee 15 years ago, and since then, it has “grown into quite an organization,” according to his daughter. The Committee honors police, fire, and military personnel, as well as the Queens community.
Over the years Farrell held many titles and was involved with many organizations, including the YMCA, CYO and Catholic Charities.
The past Grand Knight and fourth degree knight with the Knights of Columbus also received an honorary admiralty from the U.S. Merchant Marines.
Arrangements were handled by the Lloyd Funeral Home in Bayside. A Mass was held at St. Anastasia, where Farrell had been a parishioner for nearly 40 years. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery.
Farrell, whose wife Bernadine and daughter Colleen predeceased him, is survived by his children: John Jr., Kevin, Patricia Huff, Eileen Quesenberry; a sister, Evelyn; and grandchildren: John III, Sean, Christopher, Michelle, Amanda, Tabitha and Wolfgang.
Donations in Farrell’s name can be made to the SLE Lupus Foundation of New York (212-685-4118) or to the Salesians of St. Don Bosco.
