Whitestone man stole from pet store: DA

FLUSHING – A Whitestone man was arraigned last week after he allegedly broke into a Flushing pet store, a spokesman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Friday.

William Costa, 47, of 168-01 12th Ave. in Whitestone, allegedly burglarized Pet Menu on Northern Boulevard at around 8 p.m. May 10, according to the criminal complaint.

The store owner said the windows of his business were smashed and cash was taken from registers, the complaint said.

Costa was arrested after blood stains found on curtains inside the store matched his DNA, according to the complaint.

He was arraigned Aug. 19 on charges of burglary, criminal mischief and petit larceny before Queens Criminal Court Judge Alex Zigman, who ordered Costa held on $100,000 bail, the spokesman said. His next court date was scheduled for Sept. 17.
