FLUSHING — A Jamaica woman and a Queens Village man were arrested after they attacked and robbed a man as he stood under a tree during a rainstorm in Flushing, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Esther Reyes, 35, of 109-30 Merrick Blvd. in Jamaica, and Mendts Artord, 31, of 95-20 222nd St. in Queens Village, were arraigned Sept. 7 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Joel Blumenfeld on charges of attempted robbery and assault and held on $1,000 bail, the DA said. They will return to court Sept. 22, he said.
The victim was standing beneath a tree during a rainstorm Sept. 6 just before 3 p.m. when he felt a hand attempting to remove his wallet from his rear pants pocket, the DA said. He then turned around and pushed one of the defendants' hands away, Brown said.
Artord punched the victim in the face and the victim told police he felt someone else punch him on the back of the head, the DA said.
Reyes then punched the victim in the face repeatedly until he fell to the ground, Brown said. The victim attempted to run, but the defendants caught up with him and continued to beat him, the DA said.
The victim escaped, but suffered lacerations to the face and arm, as well as swelling of his face, knee and body, Brown said.
