The LeHavre community gathered for a special fundraising event on Saturday, August 16 to benefit the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
LeHavre resident Dayna Emery will be participating in the October walk along with friends Joanne Domingo, Gail Carr, and Maureen Wallace. Domingo and Carr are both survivors and Wallace’s mother has cancer.
The 39-mile walk will be held in Manhattan on October 4 and 5. In order to participate, each walker must raise at least $1,800.
During the poolside event on August 16, there was music, food, raffles and a 50/50 drawing. Many local businesses made donations. Among them were Sunshine Spa, Pizza Chef Restaurant, Whitestone Nails, Workout Express, S & E Hair Salon, Cascon Bakery, Il Vesuvio Restaurant, Cinco de Mayo, Papazzio Restaurant, Happy Trails Dog Grooming and Whitehouse Restaurant.
There were also raffle prizes of tickets to the NY Dragons, US Open, Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day, NY Islanders and NY Jets. Other items sold to raise funds included Mary Kay make-up, purses and “Hannah’s Jewelry from Israel.”
“The support of LeHavre was outstanding and we were all able to meet our goal,” Emery said.
Also assisting with the event were Bob Domingo, Bob Carr and Gwen Parker.
Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so through walk.avonfoundation.org or can contact Emery at 917-297-2189.
