Millions of people across the country and in Queens have turned off their televisions, computers and electronic games during (TV) Turnoff Week during the last week of April. Now the organizers, in response to the growing obesity crisis, are holding the first annual Fall Turnoff from September 21 to 27. Same stunt, same deal - get outdoors, exercise, do something as a family - just different weather.
We urge you to participate and turn off your electronic gadgets and gameboys and stop texting on cellphones. Why not take a drive with the family up north and enjoy the 2008 foliage season in New York State, which is officially underway. Enjoy nature’s autumn color show in the Adirondacks and Catskills region.
Each week you can log into iloveny.com for detailed reports of the progression of the foliage colors using a network of “leaf peepers,” who are trained in how to rate and describe the conditions in their areas.
In addition, you can call the New York State Travel Information Center at 1-800-CALL-NYS. Remember to bring your camera.
