An off-duty housing cop just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
Police officer Patrick Plunkett was in the HSBC Bank located at 65-63 Grand Avenue on October 9 when an armed suspect entered.
According to police, Robert Jablonowski, 36, displayed a firearm after passing a note to a teller. Plunkett witnessed the interaction and put the suspect in a headlock, according to reports, before uniformed officers completed the arrest.
He suffered facial injuries and one of his teeth was knocked out. He was brought to St. John’s Hospital.
An imitation pistol and note were recovered at the scene.
Jablonowski, who reportedly had a prior arrest, faces federal charges for attempted robbery.
