Seminerio only choice in District 38

When voters in Queens’ 38th Assembly District head to the polls on November 4, they will see only one candidate’s name on the ballot. That candidate’s name appears on the Democrat, Republican, Independence and Conservative line.
Without any opposition, the candidate, Anthony Seminerio, will likely be elected to his 30th year as an Assemblymember in Albany on November 4, but how long he will remain in office remains in doubt.
That’s because federal authorities arrested Seminerio in September for allegedly making up a fake consulting company and using it to bilk more than $500,000 in bribes in exchange for actions he took as a New York State legislator.
The charges revealed that from April of 2000 through September of 2008, Seminerio, 73, set up a consulting firm, Marc Consulting, and received payments in return for actions he took as a legislator that would benefit those companies.
Seminerio, who has represented parts of western and southern Queens in the Assembly for 30 years, then would deposit the money from Marc Consultants into his own personal bank account.
The bombshell allegations carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
Seminerio is likely due back in court on November 10 - less than one week after the election - where a number of things could happen including a possible indictment or another postponement of his case.
A person who works in Seminerio’s Richmond Hill office said that Seminerio refused to comment for any election story.
Seminerio has given no public indication that he plans to resign, but if that happens at some point, there would likely have to be a special election to fill his seat.
