ASTORIA — Police arrested an Astoria teenager after he allegedly stole a fellow student's iPhone and wallet from his gym locker, the Queens district attorney said.
Immanuel Bhagolie, 16, of 36-08 29th St. in Astoria, was arraigned before Queens Criminal Court Judge Alex Zigman on charges of criminal possession of stolen property and released him on his own recognizance, Queens DA Richard Brown said.
The defendant will return to court Nov. 17, the DA said.
A 17-year-old Astoria student told police that his iPhone and wallet had been stolen from his gym locker during school several weeks ago, the DA said. Several days later, the student's phone was listed for sale on Craigslist.com, Brown said.
The victim then arranged to meet with the person who had listed his phone for sale at the corner of 27th Street and 36th Avenue on the evening of Oct. 13, the DA said. The defendant allegedly showed up at the scene and ran away, he said.
Police arrested the defendant 30 minutes later and allegedly recovered the iPhone, the DA said.
