When members of the Board of Directors are involved in the screening process for new owners, we learn a great deal about why people want to live in North Shore Towers. In addition to checking their assets to make sure they are financially qualified to buy an apartment here, we ask about what motivated them to join our community. Their answers are wonderful reminders of the quality of life we enjoy as residents of our cooperative.
Phyllis Goldstein chairs our screening committee and two board members join her each month to interview our prospective owners and renters. I’ve served about 12 to 15 times in the last three years and these are some of the reasons why our new residents said they want to join our community:
“When the broker showed me around the facility I couldn’t believe the conveniences that would be offered to me as a resident of North Shore Towers. I wouldn’t even have to use my car to do my grocery shopping. The first thing I’m going to do is to have my prescriptions transferred to your drug store.”
“I’m a ‘gym rat’ but many times I watch television because I don’t want to go to my gym. Getting into the car, exercising and then driving home makes it an ordeal. Here it’s going to be a pleasure.”
“The broker gave me a schedule of all the activities you have in the evenings. To have live entertainment without leaving your home is an incredible perk. Also, being among people at night is very comforting especially during the winter months. I plan to live here 12 months a year and I can’t wait [to] play cards, join a club and hear some of the speakers in the V.I.P. Room.”
“I’ll be a 12-month resident and I can’t tell you how great it will be for me to go swimming after I come home from work. I never used a gym but perhaps I’ll try since it’s no effort to get there and I’m paying for it anyway.”
“I don’t go to the movies any more since it’s too much of a hassle. Now that I can just go downstairs in the warmth and safety of my own home, I’m sure I’ll start going again. Everything is so convenient that I’m sure I’ll be more active then I was when I was trapped in my own home.”
“I’m a golfer and will now be able to play nine holes when I come home from work in the spring and the summer. Now I have to get up at 5 a.m. to play on the weekend at some of the public courses in Nassau County. Talk about going to heaven.”
“To tell you the truth I don’t do too much cooking anymore. To have a restaurant in the building that even delivers is just unbelievable! When my kids come over I can be a perfect host, and take them downstairs to eat, have them go to the pool or even go to the movies. I don’t know of another building that has these amenities.”
Sometimes when we Board members serve on the screening committee, we’re reminded of all the amenities we enjoy here at North Shore Towers. Feel free to pass this article on to your friends, neighbors and possible future buyers.
