RHBA helps inform community

As a last ditch effort to get out the vote, at its monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 29, the Richmond Hill Block Association (RHBA) hosted representatives from Assemblymembers Rory Lancman and Nettie Meyersohn and Congressmember Anthony Weiner.
Also in attendance was City Councilmember Anthony Como.
“There are a lot of local races going on,” he said. “Just remember, all politics are local.”
Next up was Captain Charles McEvoy of the 102nd Precinct, who reported that over the last 28-day period, crime was down 14 percent, though assaults were up slightly.
The evening’s guest speaker was a representative for the Department of Sanitation (DOS), who announced that fall leaves will be collected with regular household trash on regularly scheduled days this year. Leaves will not have to be placed in large paper lawn or leaf bags.
He also encouraged people to reach out with complaints, but reminded them that things take time.
Last year, according to the DOS, the city was the cleanest it has been in 30 years. One omnipresent problem, however, has been pet droppings.
And beginning November 10, the minimum fine for owners who don’t pick up after their pets will increase to $250 from $100.
The next meeting of the RHBA will be on Wednesday, November 19 at 8 p.m. Guest speaker will be a representative for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), who will discuss the conversion to digital TV.
All are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and/or a new, unwrapped toy for a child to help brighten the holidays for the less fortunate.
