Policeman laid to rest

As the first chords of “Amazing Grace” sounded, a woman screamed out, “Oh God.”
Then the flag-draped coffin was brought into Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Ridgewood and an officer in full uniform - a pallbearer - wiped a tear from his eye.
On Tuesday morning, December 30, Police Officer Ronald Coy was laid to rest amid a sea of blue.
The 28-year-old, most recently assigned to the 106th Precinct in Ozone Park, was reportedly discovered by his wife and daughter in their Ridgewood home on December 27.
In what reports claim was a suicide, Coy, a former Marine, was found with a gunshot wound to his head.
This was not the first tragedy to touch the family, however.
On July 4 of this year, Coy’s eight-year-old son, Justin, drowned in a family member’s pool in Flushing.
At the funeral for the well-liked officer, who joined the force in January 2007, his grief-stricken wife and adorable daughter helped to bring up the Communion gifts of bread and wine. The beautiful, gold-inlaid church was still decorated for Christmas.
“This is one of the hardest things we ever have to do,” said the priest to a house of worship half filled by members of the NYPD, all of whom were moved.
Calling Coy’s death “untimely,” the Father remarked on how “One of the greatest moments of Ronald’s life was the moment he decided to become a police officer.
“Although he found immense burden in his own life,” he continued, “He sought to ease the burdens of others.”
After the service, Coy’s coffin was borne to a waiting hearse as the Honor Guard saluted and “Taps” was played.
