U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) has announced that the Obama transition team is working on a multi-billion dollar economic stimulus package to include heavy infusions of money for New York City’s financially ailing transit system.
Schumer said, however, that it was too early to say exactly how much money might be earmarked for transit.
“We are going to work day to make sure this stimulus package gives New York the boost we need and keeps our mass transit system on track,” Schumer said.
Schumer also said that the stimulus could include $80 billion to $100 billion for Medicaid.
“But this money will not solve all our problems or end this economic downturn,” Schumer said. “It is intended to provide new jobs and get things rolling economically once again.”
