HOLLIS HILLS — Two men posing as detectives broke into a Hollis Hills apartment Friday and took a computer they claimed had to be confiscated for evidence, police said.
A tenant of the apartment building on the 61st Avenue block of 217th Street heard noises coming from a third−floor dwelling when he was confronted by the two men between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday, police said.
The men were carrying handcuffs and showed the tenant a detective shield, police said.
Police said the men told the tenant they were taking a computer as evidence from the Hollis Hills apartment because the apartment’s owner had been arrested on drug charges.
The tenant copied the license plate of a 2002 Jeep Cherokee that he saw the men flee in, police said.
Police said the car had been reported stolen from the 109th Precinct in Flushing.
