JACKSON HEIGHTS — A 43−year−old Richmond Hill man was arrested after he allegedly placed an order for a shipment of stamps totaling more than $26,000 in value from the Jackson Heights pharmacy at which he worked, the Queens district attorney said.
Ghaneshwar Thakoordyal, of 101−31 114th St. in Richmond Hill, was arraigned Jan. 6 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Ira Margulis on charges of petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, the DA said. The defendant, who was released on his own recognizance, will return to court Feb. 10, Brown said.
According to the criminal complaint, an order was placed sometime between September and November 2008 by a representative of CVS Pharmacy for a shipment of U.S. postage stamps, which were valued at $26,880. But the manager of the pharmacy, on Northern Boulevard in Jackson Heights, allegedly told the defendant to return the shipment to the postage company, the DA said.
The defendant allegedly admitted to police that he placed the order for the stamps, took the box of stamps from the CVS store to his residence, kept the box for several days and then eventually took it to a post office in Richmond Hill and mailed it back to the postage company, Brown said.
But an employee at the Stamps United Company allegedly told police that the company never received the returned shipment of stamps, the DA said.
