An open letter to Mayor Michael Bloomberg:
This is our second request to you for help. We wrote to you in September about our problem. Every fiscal year we continue our program through the summer months, expecting to receive our discretionary funds retroactively in the fall.
But this year, after three months of operating, we were told in September that the borough president’s discretionary funds would not be coming because they were confiscated by the city Department for the Aging. Then, on Oct. 23, the DFTA commissioner informed us that he would be releasing the borough president’s funds to our program.
As of today, this has not happened. We have been given many promises over the past several months, but we have not seen any funds. Our program is running on borrowed funds and promises. We cannot continue this much longer.
Do not let the participants of our center lose their home away from home. We need your help to move these funds. At the very least, please respond to our requests.
